I come from North East Victoria originally and after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing and Philosophy in 1999, I started a career in Community Arts and Cultural Development as the Artistic Director for a community arts project with Regional Arts Victoria. Since that time I have worked primarily in Local Government, developing and leading a broad range of cultural initiatives from large scale community events and exhibitions to intimate artist development projects and cultural planning and development. In 2006 I worked closely with the Cultural Development Network on the Generations Project, a significant three year Community and Cultural Development Initiative measuring the impact of arts development embedded in local government. In recent years my work has been a balance between facilitating community based arts initiatives in the Barossa region of South Australia, arts capacity building and working on sector wide initiatives including the Creative Communities Networks Cultural Indicators Pilot Project and the Regional Galleries Association of SAs community impact project, mapping the value of public and community based galleries for regional and remote communities. My work has a specific focus on how the community arts and cultural development sector can better measure and document its successes and more effectively navigate through bureaucratic processes to ensure authenticity, credibility and sustainability. I am now working for myself with my company Play Your Part - an arts, culture and heritage community development consultancy and project management organisation.
