Elaine Ford is a Scottish based multi-disciplinary artist. Her work explores the interplay between science, technological innovation, biodiversity conservation and adventure. Elaine creates immersive environments, installation, VR, film, photography and sculptures that aim to connect us with ourselves, as a part of nature. Elaine uses natural material such as salt, crystal formations, glass, slime mould and seeds, to allow observation of the processes of time and mapping patterns of the natural world. She creates environments and structures to manipulate formations in attempts to encapsulate the forces of nature.

With a BSc in Biology with Ecology (integrating MSc Tropical Biodiversity), and a BA in Fine Art with Digital Crafting in Glass from Edinburgh College of Art she explores the hidden and unseen; the sensuous abilities of other organic life; and how we design technology to enhance our sensory capabilities.

Elaine is actively promoting the use of technology to improve environmental outcomes, and is currently hosted by Ordnance Survey’s GeoVation Scotland business incubator. Here, she is developing a start-up company called Electrek Explorer which provides tools to promote low-carbon electric vehicle travel, and eco-tourism in Scotland.
