Barbara Gocníková

I am student of the diploma year at the department of Printmaking and Other Media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. I come from a small border town in the south of Slovakia (Štúrovo). In my art work, I respond to the perception of my close and well-known surroundings, mostly in connection with my hometown. I document this environment, researching it in terms of historicity, memories, identity and a person's intimate connection to the home environment. My direct attention to this space was disturbed by the change of environment, during my study abroad in Poland and in Japan. The experience gained abroad shaped my personality, my values and, as a result, influenced my art work. After return, the familiar environment revealed an unnoticed things and proved to be inexhaustible. In my current work, I am interested in finding a possible intersubjectivity of the perception of the environment in which we find ourselves. Part of my research deals with the contrast of architecture and plants, as a part of our enviroment, based mainly on the research of the empirical perception of man in relationship with environment from a psychological, sociological, philosophical and anthropological point of view. The "separation" of man from nature - interior and exterior- and human transformation of living space. My goal is to broaden my horizons in favor of my art projects in relation to personal growth.
