Diat Alferink was born in Port Augusta and raised in the small outback town of Lyndhurst, South Australia.

Diat's father is well known Sculptor Cornelis Alferink 'TALC ALF'. Diat's Mother is from Badu and Mabiuag Islands in the Torres Strait.    Diat is from the Kala Lagaw Ya Language group from the Western Torres Strait Islands.

Diat has been an active member of the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts community over the past 25 years specifically in youth, community events, festivals forums and arts programs throughout Australia as an arts worker, performer, event manager and creative producer.

Over the past 10 years Diat has lived in Far North Queensland and the Torres Strait. Currently she is employed as the Operations Manager of the Torres Strait Islander Media Association.

Diat is passionate about the contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Arts can make to improving the lives for all Australians.



Diat toured her one woman show 'Wakaid Girl, Lyndhurst Kid' over the last 12 years and looks forward to future opportunities and networks to present this tour ready production on the national and international stage. She is a performing Artist, Festival Director, Comedian, and Creative Producer. Diat is a skilled project manager with experience in leading, developing and directing community arts organisations, large scale festivals and events and community arts projects.

'Writer/performer Diat Alferink's autobiographical work Wakaid Girl Lyndhurst Kid is a story about nationhood, identity and reconciliation. It is a personal story about generosity of spirit, forgiveness and love told in intimate, cabaret performance style
