Elma Kim is a PhD student at the University of Sydney. Her research looks at various
forms of death dogs are subjected to in the South Korean society. She makes comparison between death of pet dogs and abandoned dogs in animal shelters. She
argues that the way animal’s death is dealt with shows their position in human-centred
society. Whilst death of pet dog shows a possibility to go beyond the species boundary,
many practices associated with death of animals are still deeply grounded in
anthropocentrism.
