Joon is an artist, creative producer and arts manager with 20 years experience working in the arts. With a background in festivals/events, placemaking and theatre, she transforms public spaces into wonderlands of intercultural encounter. Her most recent work celebrates Asian culture and communities and includes: initiating BrisAsia Festival; producing To Bollywood with Love, Amigurumi Toyland, Yum Chat, and Neon Pop as part of BrisAsia; and community engagement at OzAsia Festival. She also consults on cultural diversity initiatives and artist and sector development programs with recent projects including Australia Council’s Theatre Diversity Initiative, Multicultural Artists Development for City of Gold Coast, and the Fair Play Project with Diversity Arts Australia. Joon is currently a PhD candidate in creative practice at QUT. She hopes, through her practice-based research, to develop a toolkit for designing for wonder as an approach to promoting intercultural understanding through socially engaged creative practice.
