Sunrise on farm

- founder and artistic director - Punctum- a regionally based experimental arts organisation.

- currently working on 3 R&D projects developing them within our local context, and a residency program 'Weird Sanctuaries'  which focus on 'how we gather'.

- I'd like to keep chipping away at how it might be possible to resource artists and arts organisations to ensure they have equality of resources in integrated research settings.

Iwi affiliation

I'm a 5th generation Australian of Scottish and Swedish descent and also have family in France.

Rohe

I grew up on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, Central Victoria, Australia where I currently live and work.

How I got where I am today

Growing up regionally I played outside freely. This freedom and regionality informs much of my work. I studied theatre and contemporary dance, taught for a few years and then studied and worked in contemporary performance in Europe directing and teaching at some national theatres and with several independent, contemporary performance companies with whom I directed new works commissioned by major festivals. Returning to Australia I established Punctum Inc as a way of creating a safe place to undertake regionally based experiments in performance. At Punctum we create our own experimental works and offer regional residencies and support for artists. We've received industry awards for our works and national recognition for our approach to practice development.

Whānau

With feet on the ground and eyes for the night sky, behind and with me is my feisty family and dog, my old and new friends and passionate colleagues from all walks of life and across many professions of all ages in a spread of countries, in different hemispheres and shifting environments.

Something cool

Dark Mountain's Manifesto which contains The Eight Principles of Uncivilization is an inspiring read of just 30 pages. Ahead of the Eight Principles they close off with:
"Come. Join Us. We leave at dawn."
This simple invitation to adventure feels perfect.

Reset: A New Public Agenda for the Arts offered two days and nights of thinking and discussion about how the arts and cultural sector could work to break out of the current impasse through a radical reorganisation of cultural practice and policy.
