Niall Peach is a PhD Candidate at Purdue University in Spanish and Latin American Literature. He is interested in the relationship between nation formation, citizenry, and the environment in nineteenth century, imperial and post-imperial settings. His dissertation is entitled “Rooting Citizenry/Propagating Nationhood: Barbarie, Gardens, and the Question of Civilization.” He is also the co-editor of Alexander von Humboldt: Perceiving the World forthcoming in 2021. His chapter in this is called “Re-rivering New Spain: Transatlantic Politics of Knowledge and Water in Alexander von Humboldt.”
