Niki Sperou

Niki Sperou has two decades of engagement within the nexus between art and science. She has been the resident artist and independent researcher at the Department of Medical Biotechnology, School of Medicine, Flinders University since 2006. Blood, plants, cell tissue culture and bacteria are amongst her mediums. Themes she has explored include; being human, bio politics, Promethianism, chimeric and cultural hybrids, toXicity, the anthropocene, antibiotic resistance and the human microbiome. As the 2020 recipient of the ANAT 2020 Synapse Grant she is currently collaborating with the Centre for Marine Bioproducts Development, Flinders University toward creative production and application of marine macro algal biodegradable bio-plastics and biopolymers. She has exhibited and written tests for conferences and publications in Australia and internationally. 

Field Trip is an international research symposium investigating creative practice at the intersection of art, science, technology and the environment.
