Russell Hibbs is a poet and songwriter who spent his early years in the playground of then pristine Malayan jungles. When he moved to the rainforest region of northern New South Wales (Australia), he became involved in local and global forest protection. After co-founding the Invisible Opera Company of Tibet (Oz) with Daevid Allen (Gong) in 1986, he performed at Folk and World music festivals until 1994. Then a year in a remote Tasmanian cottage dusted off the bardic pages, and a humbling position of being a storyteller for 5 year old kids gave him a sense of proportion. It became clear that the power of the spoken word and song can be key to remembering our connection in nature and with each other. Russell began working in schools, festivals, retreats and aged care using sound, song and stories reflecting the innate relationship of the natural world with self. He continues to perform and share his unique style in ceremony.

Drawing on the rich world of myth and nature he weaves a tapestry of song and story on the timeless loom of our imagination. From Glastonbury to Byron Bay his work encompasses concert, festival and personal development retreats. Russell is a Bard in the true sense of the word, he brings a feeling of intimacy rarely experienced in these modern days. With stories from the ancients combined with original poetry and song, he brings to life a memory of times gone by and times yet to come.

Russell collaboration’s include albums of ancient and contemporary whale chants with Bunna lawrie of the Mirning people, Animal medicine music with Arpana Gita, Electric Wizardry with ‘Second Nature’, Tightrope walking with Andy Copeman
