VIVIENNE GLANCE PLAYWRIGHT/ POET /PERFORMER

Vivienne’s plays have been produced/ developed in Australia, UK, USA, Canada, and Europe, including a showcase performance at The International Playwriting Festival, London. Vivienne works with Sudanese writer, Afeif Ismail, co-transcreating his poems and plays into English, including the 2011 AWGIE-nominated The African Magician. As well as writing, Vivienne has been a professional actor for over 2 decades, working in UK, USA and Australia.

Vivienne holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Western Australia (UWA) researching science in performance and has published several academic articles on this topic. She received UWA’s Matilda Award for Cultural Excellence in 2011. She is currently an Honorary Research Fellow at UWA.  She’s been awarded writing residencies at: 

Bush Retreat for Eco-Writers Residency (BREW), Murringo, NSW (Sept-Oct 2019); Djerassi Resident Artist Program, California, USA (May 2015); Cummins Theatre, Merredin, WA (Stages WA Playwrights Consortium, 2013); The Arts Catalyst in London, UK (WA Playwrights Development Initiative, 2012); The Peter Cowan Writers Centre in Joondalup, WA, 2010 

Vivienne Glance’s poetry is published in many journals, anthologies and literary magazine. Her first poetry collection was The Softness of Water (Sunline Press) followed by A Simple Rain with photography by Perdita Phillips Lethologica Press).

Over a more than 20-year acting career, Vivienne has appeared in both classical and contemporary theatre roles including for Royal Shakespeare Company in London’s West End, Chichester Festival Theatre and UK Regional & London theatres, independent WA companies at The Blue Room and Rechabites Hall (in Perth WA). She's performed several times at Edinburgh, Seattle and London Fringe Festivals and acted in her own works at Sydney and Perth short performance Festivals. She's also appeared in many TV and short films roles, in commercials, and she works as a radio performer and voiceover artist.
