Alicia Melonie Jones is a Performance/Installation artist currently residing on Yugambeh country (Gold Coast). A heritage of Palawa, Welsh and English, Alicia is a combination of many worlds, old and new. Questioning modes of education, knowledge systems and control of information through the use of objects and gesture as cultural signifiers, Alicia’s body of work stems from her journey back to country, colonial whitewashing and the media-driven immediacy of society. Alicia’s performances and installations are created to activate cathartic experience through critical self reflection. Alicia's performance-led research centres on the effectiveness of physical theatre performance (NSP Suzuki, Body Weather, Butoh) in releasing trauma and promoting inclusive societies through the series performing detention.

Alicia’s praxis is complimented by working successfully in the Queensland Community Cultural Development sector for the past 15 years as producer/facilitator/teacher/mentor and in business management for 18 years (including Cultural Event Management, Film, Construction, Justice, Commercial Property Management and Hospitality industries). Alicia was representative on the Regional Arts Development Fund for a period of 5 years and heads cre8veunltd, a collective of creatives from across the country, working together to activate critical connections and civil response-ability.
