Aro are stepping into a new chapter with their forthcoming concept album Tāwauwau (March 2026) - a body of work inspired by life on the road with their young whānau, and the wonder, weight, and yearning that travel stirred up. The album is about barely catching a glimpse of Tāwauwau, a place beyond perception, this other "lighter" world which we remember greeted us when we were kids. Our journey there forces us to face the “music” in our own lives, and in that process we realise Tāwauwau is becoming a reality around us all (again), ending with a desire to protect it for our kids/family/generations to come.
Charles (Ngaapuhi, Te Rarawa, Ngaati Te Ata Waiohua, Ngaati Mutunga) and Emily Looker are a Te Tiriti-based duo whose artistry blends te reo Māori and English, weaving together jazz, folk, soul, and RnB influences. Their work is anchored in the values of kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga - caring for ourselves, each other, and the natural world.
Their most recent album, He Rākau, He Ngārara (2024), celebrated significant native rākau and ngārara through waiata shaped by mātauranga Māori and iwi collaboration. It won Best Pop Album by a Māori Artist at the Waiata Māori Music Awards 2024, NZ on Air Best Music Video for 'Totarā', and 'Māhoe me Pataē' was a longlist finalist for the APRA Silver Scroll Award. Music writer Graham Reid (Elsewhere) described it as “an immediately and immensely likable album” ranging from classic 50s-styled balladry ('Tōtara'), to contemporary pop ('Namupoto', 'Wētā'), and delicate folk ('Pukatea').

Quickly making a name for themselves with their sun-soaked reggae-inspired sound, Corrella have become a new favourite on the Aotearoa music scene. Their sleeper-hit single ‘Blue Eyed Māori’ announced their arrival, with the years since establishing them as one of the hottest live bands in the country.
November 2024 saw the release of their anticipated new album, Skeletons. Described as an album “packed with roots-reggae anthems primed for summer festival season”, the album was named by Rolling Stone as one of the 50 Best New Zealand Albums of 2024. With their sound of South Pacific-inspired roots/reggae, the release was followed up with festival performances at Rhythm and Vines and Homegrown, plus a run of sold-out shows across Australasia alongside L.A.B.
Named for the naval-base where the band met, 2023 saw the release of their debut album, Road From 26. The album is a powerful, modern & outright vibe which takes the listener on a journey from Corrella’s past to present. With their signature feel-good roots-reggae, the album saw them incorporating funk, soul & pop-rock sounds throughout.
One of the standouts from the album, the track ‘Blue Eyed Māori’ saw the band’s audience grow on the back of this laid-back earworm. The track was one of the most-played songs on NZ radio & one of the most-streamed in 2023. The track has since spent over 50 weeks at Number One on the Official NZ Top 20 Singles chart, holding the all-time record for the most weeks at Number One.
Driven by rhythm guitiarist & hype man Te Naawe Tupe (Ngāi Tūhoe) and vocalists Pipiwharauroa & Ngawaiwera Campbell (Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti He, Ngāti Pukenga), Corrella spent 2024 honing their live show, with single ‘How Will I Know’ being one of the most-played songs on NZ radio over the summer period. 2025 has seen them tour both Australia and NZ multiple times, continuing to make their mark with their high-energy live show. Hard at work on their third album, 2026 will see them continue to go from strength to strength as one of the fastest-rising acts in Aotearoa.

Phoebe Rings grew up in the Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland music ecosystem, performing gigs in their unique signature blend of jazz-inspired dream-pop and building a devoted fanbase. They formed in 2019, having met through mutual creative friends and projects, with their first major gig opening for The Beths.
After signing to Carpark Records in 2024, they released their self-titled debut EP October 2024, and their debut LP Aseurai last June. Affectionately dubbed the ‘Sunday Sessions,’ by lead singer/synthesist Crystal Choi, the band religiously wrote, practised, recorded and produced for the album every Sunday across 2023-2024 while balancing work and other musical projects.
The talented ‘Indie Supergroup,’ as coined by RNZ, are all prolific musicians with distinct solo projects. This includes involvement with other notable NZ acts such as Princess Chelsea, Fazerdaze, Tiny Ruins, AC Freazy, and Lucky Boy.
While Phoebe Rings was formed by Auckland jazz school-trained pianist Crystal Choi, Aseurai shines with an intentional, collaborative shift with songwriting from drummer Alex Freer, guitar/synthesist Simeon Kavanagh-Vincent, and bassist Benjamin Locke.
Though four different people contributing songwriting credits posed new challenges, says Kavanagh-Vincent, “we all still came together in a cohesive manner.” After all, they share common ground in Phoebe Ring’ celestial dream-pop roots with a love of Stereolab, Broadcast, Studio Ghibli and video game soundtracks.
This shift signals an exciting direction for Phoebe Rings, and Choi says their focus for the next year includes “expanding, adding more rings to our planet, playing in more places including Asia, meeting new people and being inspired by seeing other great bands play.”
Phoebe Rings topped off their ascendant 2025 with tours across New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and a 36-date North American tour supporting The Beths; playing venues including Brooklyn Paramount in NY and The Wiltern in LA to a total of 45,000 fans across the country. Other high profile support slots include Japanese Breakfast, Arlo Parks and Kate Bollinger. Aseurai won praise across the globe, with Pitchfork awarding the album a 7.6, declaring it “an indie-pop record that is alternately chill, cosmic, and cosmopolitan”; tastemaker station KEXP labelling it “an irresistible collection of magnetic dream-pop”; and Rolling Stone noting “there is exquisite musicality bubbling under their songs’ pristine surfaces.” The album was #2 most added at NACC radio the week of release, with the band now racking up over 1 million streams across their EP and album. The future is fizzing with momentum and Phoebe Rings are currently working on their second album.
