The video from this morning's session will be available soon.

Just so good to hear intelligent discourse about the arts instead of the dumbed-down waffle we've been subjected to for so many years now.
-
Please note all times mentioned are Adelaide local time (ACDT) which is 2.5 hours ahead of Western Australia, 1 hour ahead of the Northern Territory, 30 minutes ahead of Queensland and 30 minutes behind Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales. The next session is “In-Conversation 3 - A Fair Deal for Artists: winning the economic rights of cultural workers’” starting at 1:30pm (Adelaide time).
-
Thank you for joining the first session of RESET Day Two!
-
Apologies, I missed that. I'll have to rewind!
-
@artssouthaustraliastaffmember, this question was already asked at the beginning of the Q&A.
-
I do hope that this 'cultural policy' will include the voices of artists and the cultural diversity across the country.
-
Can you please ask Pippa Bailey's question?
-
@Minister Burke, that is an excellent point of distinguishing philanthropist supports to the arts.
-
We have about 25 minutes left for your questions
-
There is still a huge gap in the cultural sector that the Australia Council is not able to fund or develop strategies for - museums and galleries. Would your cultural policy be expansive and develop ways to include them in the future?
-
Thank you Tony Burke MP for being so across the arts portfolio, the long lens of historic landmarks, its depth, and its potential..
-
where we are at post covid is in urgent triage. we need to multiply funding levels by a factor of ten and prioritise independent practises
-
The activation that happened in response to the Senate Enquiry, has tarnished us all. The cultural gold is in the "unfunded" practitioners. How can we cleanse the record and reset the cultural landscape with a sector-led approach to curating what we believe is iconic - not bureaucrats on the payroll, determining our Voice. What does @Minister Burke believe is possible to support the capacity building of the sector and "clearing" our reputations?
-
Yes Eve - we can provide a transcript
-
We all remember the years of 'consultation" in the lead up to the reimagining of the Australia Council model - only to have it tossed out. Many of us sat at those meetings and shared our thoughts. We don't forget!
-
Will this exchange become an accessible transcript later ?
-
Thank you Tony Burke for responding to the morass of current arts funding and arts education with both your heart and your mind. I teared up at the end of your speech -- It has been so looong since we've heard a politician say anything meaningful or true.
-
Advocacy has been mingled with activism and profiled the independent, second tier Arts sector as "renegades".
-
That is a great point
-
@Minister Burke, As an artist myself, my time predominantly volunteers works. Can Minister Burke solidly underpin the importance of artists and recognise their contribution to the Australian economy?
-
Can Tony imagine a way to join the dots more effectively so arts and culture are meaningfully embedded in other sector departments/portfolios and also leading transition as we respond to Climate Emergency?
-
Q: Tony. Thank you for your heart and mind. Where do you stand on the sector's advocacy having been underpinned by the 'creative industries' narrative all these years...has it brought us to the point where Paul Fletcher can do the sleight of hand with retailers being lumped in with arts and culture?
-
We may well lead change but at what cost to us as creatives without value and respect from the community which in turn is lead by government .
-
Please share your questions and comments

UNDERBELLY: Macquarie St
-
Also worth considering that ARTS training is virtually out of reach for most but the most wealthy now.
-
That is always my beef. As a visual artist my choice of career is not taken seriously.
-
During the COVID, I cancelled 15 face-to-face arts workshops and exhibitions.
-
More rigour and transparency in decision making please.
-
simply put, the Australia Council funding is a drop in the ocean. it's not enough, even before the cuts, it was not enough. it should be a billion dollars at a minimum. no question
-
It saddened me, that supports for the arts is always used as a political tool and the last on the political agenda.
-
watching online - thank you for providing this option!
-
Yes the ditching of the Creative Australia policy was shameful and very damaging
-
@Dr Kate Shaw, thank you for sharing, its a reality for artists that we have to work together on how we can utilise our knowledge and expertise to revitalise our country.
-
During the keynote, feel free to pose questions and/or comment on anything related to the session on this chat. At the end of the speeches, there will be an opportunity to present these to the speakers for consideration.
