Questions and Comments
-
Me too - an enthusiastic accomplice and always up for shifting power to First Nations people. Keen to see #RESETarts privilege the local, break down arts elitism to collaborate widely with community and reimagine structures so power looks and feels different.
-
Thanks for joining our first session. Please note all times mentioned are Adelaide local time (ACDT) which is 2.5 hours ahead of Western Australia, 1 hour ahead of the Northern Territory, 30 minutes ahead of Queensland and 30 minutes behind Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales. The next session is “Public Value and the Cultural Sector: moving beyond ‘jobs and growth’” starting at 1:30 pm (Adelaide time).
-
Agree! There is lots more work that needs to be doing to appropriately protect Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP)!
-
@ Daniel, we need desperately at least 1 in Ngarrindjeri Country.
-
I'll watch the door anytime! + totally agree re accomplices. This book might be of interest to some folks thinking through solidarity work http://decolonizingsolidarity.org/
-
Love that, @jacob!
-
What we are still grappling about is somehow we missed the connection of acknowledging the existing knowledge which intertwines with respect, trust, reciprocity and mutual relationship.
-
Are there examples inside or outside our sector where the concept of 'first nations first' is working (partillay or fully).
-
A very important point – why is the discussion about resilience and not about why many communities need to be resilient?
-
@ Jacob - to extend what you say, working with the traditional people is about creating a space equally and collectively regardless of status and colour.
-
If you have questions or feedback for our panelists please share them - about 25 minutes left in this session
-
@jacob brilliantly stated
-
Caring for Country - needs to address at the grassroots level in a dialogic approach within a cultural context, working collaboratively with the community involved.
-
caring for country as org value = brilliant idea Jacob.
-
@Jacob, I agree.
-
Kirsty Parker 'big heart' woman - beautiful.
-
@the speakers, my ethnicity is Indigenous Americas-Mexico but since I migrated to Australia I work alongside the Ngarrindjeri Elders for over 20 years, instigating and implementing various arts and cultural projects but sadly my works are unfunded and predominantly I work as volunteers. So, how the RESET could address the issues?
-
I love the critique of RESET from our First Nations standpoints - to also mean reimagine, revitalise, regenerate, reactivate - resetting to old ways with new ways and carrying it all forward with urgency and grace as our Old Ones have done before us.
-
@Jelina in terms of the most recent supports announced by Arts South Australia, here are more details, which extend to rural and regional areas in SA: https://www.dpc.sa.gov.au/responsibilities/arts-and-culture/covid-fund
-
Jelina I support you in that sentiment. South Australia goes beyond the borders of Adelaide. There is important work happening in regional SA that requires more acknowledgement.
-
In the introductory speech, the speaker mentioned about supports and policies for the artists but I heard that these supports are predominantly directed to Adelaide based artists. May I ask, if these arts policies extend to rural and regional areas in South Australia?
-
As we listen to Jacob, Daniel, and Kirstie's burning questions, what are yours? What has been top of mind for you?
-
Hi all, Frank Panucci here on the unceded lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.
-
Morning everyone, from Yuin country on Sth Coast NSW. I'm particularly interested in how this much-needed reset for arts and culture might/should intersect with education reforms, particularly in schooling. My longtime frame is music.
-
During the conversations, feel free to comment and discuss anything related to the session on this chat. There will be times that we will summarise discussions here for the panel and audience in the room.

#ResetArts #ResetConference
-
I am interested in how we can collaborate together to advocate of our sector.
-
Would love to explore capture of the arts by the fossil fuel sector and how it holds us back from climate action. (See more in an article I wrote on this recently - https://overland.org.au/2021/09/the-arts-in-australia-need-to-break-up-with-fossil-fuels/)
-
Deadly welcome Robert, Ngaityalya X
-
As we get started, are there any key reasons why you have joined the Reset Arts Conference? Are there any themes you want to explore, or any industry problems you are facing?
-
Ngaityalya Robert. 🙏
